I live in West Michigan. I have a husband (Steve) who is my best friend and trouble partner. Together we have 3 boys, my 20 year old son (Dylan), and my 22 and 20 year old stepsons (Andrew and Nick) who are all working on finding their own ways into the world. And most recently we have become Grandparents to beautiful little Ava Marie. We have a jumpy, licky boxer dog (Lilly) who thinks she's a human. We have a mischievious kitten (Chloe) that we rescued from a blizzard and an old cranky cat (Tubby) that we inherited from my parents-in-law. I love to cook and bake. I struggle with diet and exercise. I am very easily amused. I like to write and have a lot of random thoughts in my head. I work in healthcare, specifically Occupational Therapy, providing inpatient rehabilitation for brain injured adults. Most recently, my husband and I have started our own business called "AnythingEverything". Basically we are pickers, yes like the show.

30 Day Song Challenge - Day 15

Day 15 - A song that describes you.  Really, I had never thought about this before.  I think in the past there were definitely songs that I identified with but not one that came to mind that I would say 'described' me.  This is quite a personal challenge because how you view yourself might be completely different than how others view you.

At one point in time I was so clueless that I decided to Ask the Google.  "Google?" I asked "What's a Song that Describes Me?"  To my surprise, The Google responded with a quiz entitled 'What Song Describes You'.  So, I took it.

The quiz was a 'What would you do?' in random situations type test.  I answered most of the questions with the 'whatever' or 'I don't really care' type of response because I'm usually pretty easy going and open to different suggestions.  Well, the quiz maker must have meant 'whatever' and 'I don't really care' in the downer/Emo/Droopy kind of way because the song I got was "I Don't Feel Like Dancin'" by the Scissor Sisters.  What?!?  Don't Feel like Dancin??!?  That is about the opposite of me as I pretty much always feel like dancing!

Here's where it gets interesting (well, at least to me).  I had never heard this song before and my only recollection of the Scissor Sisters was that Ana Matronic was a guest artist on one of the songs on Duran Duran's new album.  I looked it up, listened to it, and I LOVED it!!  I downloaded it on The iTunes and spent more time than I care to admit wishing it did describe me so I could use it and share it with you.

Yesterday, sitting on the exercise bike at the gym I had a light bulb revelation moment and realized that it actually did describe me in a way.  The song is about a person who has had a bad day and therefore doesn't feel like dancin',  no sir, no dancin' today.  The irony is that the song is very upbeat, happy sounding, and completely makes you want to stand up and dance.  It hit me that one of my personality traits that I am most proud of is that I am a lot of things that don't always seem to go together.  I like to take bits and pieces of life and combine them whether they make sense or not.  Quirky?  Eclectic?  Eccentric?  (Crazy?)

Anyway, here's the song.  I'm guessing many have not heard it before.  Give it a listen and I guarantee it'll have you bouncing up and down and tapping your toes no matter how bad your day is going.

30 Day Song Challenge - Day 14

Day 14 is an interesting one, "A Song That No One Would Expect You To Love".  I've mentioned before that I have pretty ecclectic tastes and I can't think of one single genre of music that doesn't have at least one song that I love.

So, the trick is, to figure out which genre people would be MOST surprised by.  I figured what to do but to Poll the Audience!  Obviously, everyone associates my music tastes most with 80's and 90's New Wave, Punk Rock, and Alternative.  The categories I chose for my poll were:  Heavy Metal, Classic Rock, R & B, Modern Pop, Classic Pop, Classic Rap, or Country.  Surprisingly, the votes were pretty even!  I did appreciate the few that acknowledged that they would not be surprised by me liking music in any category (Thanks Kath, Sue, Sara, and Brandi!).  And kudos to Scott Rickers who remembered "my genre" all the way from high school, xx number of years ago.

The votes were as following:  Heavy Metal 3, Classic Rock 2, R & B 0 (which surprises me because this is probably the one that would have gotten my vote), Modern Pop 1, Classic Pop 0, Classic Rap 3 (Sara, I'm counting yours in this category), and Country 2.

Being the diplomat I am and the fact that the top 2 categories are world's apart I decided to pick one from heavy metal and 2 from rap (just because one is classic and one is more modern).  The choices I made were not only just songs that I love but artists with many songs from each that I love.  And...  I'm not afraid to admit it!!  Enjoy!!
