There are only two ways to live your life: One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as if everything is. -Albert Einstein
My Photo
I live in West Michigan. I have a husband (Steve) who is my best friend and trouble partner. Together we have 3 boys, my 21 year old son (Dylan), and my 23 and 21 year old stepsons (Andrew and Nick) who are all working on finding their own ways into the world. And most recently we have become Grandparents to beautiful little Ava Marie. We have a jumpy, licky boxer dog (Lilly) who thinks she's a human. We have a mischievious kitten (Chloe) that we rescued from a blizzard and probably the worlds most naughtiest cat (Jack) that we rescued from friends who couldn't keep him at their home. I have been obsessed lately with fitness and clean eating. I am very easily amused. I like to write and have a lot of random thoughts in my head. I work in healthcare, specifically Occupational Therapy, providing inpatient rehabilitation for brain injured adults. Most recently, my husband and I have started our own business called "AnythingEverything". Basically we are pickers, yes like the show.

Laura's Playlist

Thought it was time for a blog post again.  Since my last round of postings I've developed a new obsession, diet and exercise!  So, don't be surprised if that's a common posting theme in the months to come.  I know I go in streaks but it's my blog so I can if I want to.  ;)

I've been on the hunt for great workout songs and have been polling friends and stealing ideas from Zumba class, Spin class, and So You Think You Can Dance.  I have a great ongoing playlist of almost 100 songs that I love to work out to.  What I do is ONLY let myself listen to these songs when I'm exercising, that way they stay motivating.

I came up with my Top 50 that I thought I'd post for you now in case there are others out there looking for ideas as well.  I should note that I am not really bothered by a mild amount of profanity or lewd content so if you are offended by that, some of these songs are not meant for you.  Usually they have an 'explicit' and 'clean' version available to download.  Also, I do not know how to link just music so you're getting youtube videos.  I have NOT watched these so I apologize if there's any disturbing content in them.

You have probably heard some of these but hopefully there are a few new ones in there for you.  Maybe there's one that you used to love but forgot about!  So, here goes.  In alphabetical order...

1.  All Night Disco Party by The Brakes  Upbeat and fun!
2.  All You Need is Now by Duran Duran  You know me, there will be Duran Duran in everything.
3.  Another One Bites the Dust by Queen  Awesome motivator!
4.  Are You the One by the Presets  This one came from SYTYCD dance of the 2 princes.

9.  Breathe by The Prodigy  Because I love them, that's why...
10. Breed by Nirvana  A harder edge.
11. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis - Can't Hold Us  From Spin class and pretty much everywhere music is played now-a-days.
12. Circus by Britney Spears  All Eyes on me (not really).  :)
13. Drop It Low by Kat DeLuna  One of my favs from Zumba.
14. Feel so Close by Calvin Harris  Again from Spin class.  I love it when Taline tells us "I feel so close to you right now" as she's torturing us with sprints!  :)
15. Freak by Estelle ft Kardinal Offishal  from a SYTYCD Sonya Tayeh routine.
16. Gangnam Style by Psy  C'mon...  You CANNOT listen to this song and NOT want to break out in the dance!  I've had to control myself when I'm on the track.
17. Happiest Girl by Depeche Mode  I have a better version on iTunes that I got from Napster back in the day.  Apparently, that version doesn't exist anymore.  Too bad for you!  But, this one is great too.
18. Heartbreaker by MSTRKRFT ft John Legend  SYTYCD and I was lucky enough to find other MSTRKRFT tunes when I downloaded this one.  They are great!
19. Home by Marc Broussard  A Pandora discovery while listening to a "station" made from one of my favorite songs.  A great way to discover new music.

23. Kick It (Stereoheroes Remix) by Nina Martine  Sonya Tayeh and SYTYCD what would I do without you???
24. Late Bar by Duran Duran  One of DD's first singles, it was never on any album but it's the namesake of the greatest dance party in Chicago.  La La La Late Bar....
25. Let Your Body Learn by Nitzer Ebb  Another from my youth.  I just can't give it up.  Dancing at The Warehouse in Kalamazoo with Lisa Stanton drinking Alligators from 1/2 carafes.  Ahhh, memories.
26. Locked out of Heaven by Bruno Mars  Great fun beat for lots of activities.
27. Love Letter by Clairy Browne & the Bangin' Rackettes  I think this was on a commercial recently?
28. Madness by Muse  This is a cooldown song but will work for cardio too.  Heard it in Zumba and feel instantly in love with it!

38. Sexy and I Know It by LMFAO  Well, of course.
39. Shake It (Radio Mix) by Anane ft Mr. Vegas  A great Zumba song.  I think I could even do this one without the instructor.
40. Shawty got Moves by Get Cool  My absolute favorite Zumba song and I have to admit I may shake my bootie a little too enthusiastically during this one.  ;)
41. That's Not My Name by the Ting Tings  because when you go by your given name that is usually changed into a nickname you struggle with this your whole life.
42. They Call Me (Radio Mix) by Rednek  Found this song by accident and it's one of my absolute favorites.
43. They Call Me (Rubbadub Mix) by Rednek  I love it so much, in fact, that I have 2 versions!
44. Titanium by David Guetts ft Sia  Another power song.  This one pushed me through endless cardio hours during the March Madness competition.
45. Too Close by Alex Clare  I think this was also a commercial.  Those are great ways to discover new artists.
46. Toxic by District 78 ft Cheesa  A great remix of one of my favorite songs.  This one is fantastic to strength train to because it really makes you slow down.

30 Day Song Challenge - Day 15

Day 15 - A song that describes you.  Really, I had never thought about this before.  I think in the past there were definitely songs that I identified with but not one that came to mind that I would say 'described' me.  This is quite a personal challenge because how you view yourself might be completely different than how others view you.

At one point in time I was so clueless that I decided to Ask the Google.  "Google?" I asked "What's a Song that Describes Me?"  To my surprise, The Google responded with a quiz entitled 'What Song Describes You'.  So, I took it.

The quiz was a 'What would you do?' in random situations type test.  I answered most of the questions with the 'whatever' or 'I don't really care' type of response because I'm usually pretty easy going and open to different suggestions.  Well, the quiz maker must have meant 'whatever' and 'I don't really care' in the downer/Emo/Droopy kind of way because the song I got was "I Don't Feel Like Dancin'" by the Scissor Sisters.  What?!?  Don't Feel like Dancin??!?  That is about the opposite of me as I pretty much always feel like dancing!

Here's where it gets interesting (well, at least to me).  I had never heard this song before and my only recollection of the Scissor Sisters was that Ana Matronic was a guest artist on one of the songs on Duran Duran's new album.  I looked it up, listened to it, and I LOVED it!!  I downloaded it on The iTunes and spent more time than I care to admit wishing it did describe me so I could use it and share it with you.

Yesterday, sitting on the exercise bike at the gym I had a light bulb revelation moment and realized that it actually did describe me in a way.  The song is about a person who has had a bad day and therefore doesn't feel like dancin',  no sir, no dancin' today.  The irony is that the song is very upbeat, happy sounding, and completely makes you want to stand up and dance.  It hit me that one of my personality traits that I am most proud of is that I am a lot of things that don't always seem to go together.  I like to take bits and pieces of life and combine them whether they make sense or not.  Quirky?  Eclectic?  Eccentric?  (Crazy?)

Anyway, here's the song.  I'm guessing many have not heard it before.  Give it a listen and I guarantee it'll have you bouncing up and down and tapping your toes no matter how bad your day is going.
